With a victory over Northwestern in the regular season finale, the Cougars claimed the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs and gave the team its first postseason bid since 1981.
In 2021, the Cougars had their best season since 2016 as they compiled a 5-5 overall record and went 4-2 in UMAC play. Minnesota Morris then matched that record in 2022, vying for a conference title deep into the season behind the play of 13 All-UMAC selections.
During Coach Hoffmann’s first season at Minnesota Morris, the Cougars went 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play, which included a thrilling 21-13 win over Greenville to close out the 2018 campaign.

Hoffmann joined the SDSU staff in June 2006 after working for a year as a defensive secondary coach at his alma mater, UMN Morris, where he also was a four-year starter as a student-athlete.
A two-time First Team All-UMAC selection, he was a linebacker and defensive back at Morris, Hoffmann was named the UMAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2004, along with the team’s Most Valuable Player after setting the record for most tackles in a season.
